Today marks a big milestone for BinPing: we're officially live in Leicestershire, our third local authority partnership and by far our largest. That's 305,000 households who can now get free email or 99p text reminders the night before their bin collection.
What we learned from Durham and Darlington
Our first two councils taught us a lot. Durham's XML feed was clean but their bank-holiday schedule was hand-edited in a spreadsheet. Darlington's data was brilliant — except they changed their recycling routes halfway through onboarding.
Every council is different, and that's actually the hardest part of what we do.
What's different about Leicestershire
Leicestershire is a two-tier authority, which means the district councils handle waste collection but the county oversees strategy. We had to build relationships with seven different waste teams to get a single, unified feed.
The result? A cleaner, more resilient data pipeline that we'll use as the template for every multi-tier authority going forward.
What's next
We're in active conversations with four more councils in the North East and Midlands. If you've signed up for early access in one of those areas, you'll be the first to know when we go live.
